The 52 Lists Project: List 3

I am so behind on my blogging!! There’s been a lot going on with work because my work mate was out for almost two weeks which doubled my work load. So lately, after sitting in front of one for 12+hrs for work, when I get home the last thing I want to do is look at a computer screen. Anyway, she’s back so hopefully my days can get back to some sense of MY normal.

Okay…this week’s list.

LIST THE HAPPIEST MOMENTS OF YOUR LIFE SO FAR.

1.) The day I gave birth to my daughter. I was excited to get to spend her 25th birthday with her. I picked her up in the morning and we made a day of it. We had breakfast and then just spent the day hanging out and catching up.

JaLisa & Mom

2.) The day I met Tomi

3.) My wedding day!!!

4.) The day we found out my mom was in remission. Cancer sucks!!

5.) The first time that my dad let me sing the national anthem (The Star-Spangled Banner) at the Tacoma Golden Gloves. I have been doing it for about 15yrs now.

6.) At age 15, my daughter was in a horrible car accident. She was in a coma for two weeks. When she woke up, that was one of the happiest moments of my life.

11.) The day JaLisa graduated from high school.

12.) The day of my 20yr high school reunion when I got to see so many of my good friends.

TAKE ACTION: Sometimes it’s easy to forget all the wonderful things that have happened in our lives. Come back to this list every day this week to remember you live a beautiful life.

Queen Of My Heart

Today is a very special day! Its my Mama’s birthday!
My mother…
image
I could go on forever about my mother. She is my favorite girl. When I was a girl, she always made sure to create fantastic memories with me and to show me that the world was bigger than my neighborhood.

She is a breast cancer survivor. She’s strong in ways that I’m not even sure she realizes.

Out on the town

She’s not afraid to be silly. She’s young at heart…

Mother's Day 2010

She loves me unconditionally. Really. There have been some times when I’m sure I was pretty hard to deal with and she has loved me through it all.

She’s absolutely gorgeous!

And I bet if you asked my daughter, she’d say she’s the best grandma ever. Since I was a 14yr old mom, she was definitely instrumental in making sure I got my mom skills together.
Like I said, I could go on and on about my mother. Mostly, I just want her to know that I love her the mostest. Happy birthday, Mommy!

Today is also my brother’s birthday

10 Things I’m Loving Right Now: February Edition

Here lately, it seems that I am always a day behind (at least). I blame the fact that I no longer have the structure of a job to keep me in check. There is nothing to keep me on schedule. I have been late mailing birthday cards and other sentiments and I pretty much have no social life anymore.
Anyway, I’m a day late but here is my list for February…

1.) Birthdays! My sister (Feb 21st) and my dad (Feb 27th) both celebrated birthdays. Also, our oldest daughter, Veronica and my oldest nephew. Plus countless other cousins and friends celebrated birthdays in February.

2.) This hottie! My wife is everything to me.

3.) No explanation needed…

4.) Discovering Global Couture because Lord knows I love me some cute accessories. I also love supporting a small, black-owned business.

image
I love a bow and some button earrings!

5.) My hairdresser!

My Mimi! My hairdresser since I've lived in the Tri-Cities (eastern WA state)

Mimi is the business and she always makes sure my hair is healthy and cute. I like to change it up!

Before & after

6.) My daughter and my mommy! Because they live 4hrs away, I don’t get to see them as often as I would like so every opportunity is a blessing.

image

7.) My smile! There was definitely a few rough patches but I made it through and I’m still able to smile.

image

8.) Valentine’s Day! This was the first time in 11+ years that we actually went out for this particular day. We just don’t get into it. My wife planned the whole thing which is saying a lot because she is not really a romance kinda chick. She bought me fancy under things, took me to an amazing dinner and then we went dancing. I had a blast!

image

9.) New life! I got a new, baby cousin on the 22nd. Her name is Meleeha Janae and she is beautiful. Congrats to CJ & Jazmine, the new parents! Also, congrats to my cousin Steph (Jazz’s mom), the new grandma!

10.) Weight loss! I am -60lbs than I was at this time last year and that feels AMAZING!

10 Things I’m Loving Right Now: January Edition

I try to do these at the end of the month as a reminder to be thankful and take time to find the blessings in my day-to-day life. I was in the hospital so I’m a little bit late. Better late than never, right? January was a pretty good month and a great beginning to 2015.

1.) My baby girl turned 24 on Jan. 23rd.

image

2.) My wife…just because she’s awesome

image

3.) A good cup of coffee. I’ve found a new appreciation for my morning cup. My afternoon cup. And sometimes, my night time cup.

image

4.) My fur baby, Hayley. She keeps me company during the day.

image

5.) Dancing out the stress. There is nothing I enjoy more than cranking up some music and gettin’ down with my bad self. My go to jam…Electric Lady by Janelle Monaé

image

6.) Inspiration in book form. This book allows me to study my bible and get inspired using stories that ‘real’ women can relate to.

image

7.) Discovering a new source for great accessories at Global Couture.

image

8.) Selma (film)

image

9.) My parents. I appreciate every day that I am blessed to have them here.

image

10.) My Grandma. January 21st would have been her 79th birthday. I am thankful for the years I had her here to love, nurture, teach and guide me and my daughter. I miss her everyday.

10 Things I’m Loving Right Now

I usually do this on the last day of the month but we were traveling and I had no service so here we are on the 1st. This has been a busy time and I have an abundance of things to be thankful for so here we go…
1.) Faith – God has kept me and continues to keep me and my family. Without faith, it would be difficult to get up everyday.

2.) Tomi – My wife is AMAZING! Since I’ve been unemployed, she has taken up the slack without any complaints. I know that having all of the financial responsibility thrust upon your shoulders can be quite the heavy load to bare but she carries it as though it ‘weighs’ nothing. I am so thankful to her and for her.

3.) Friends – There aren’t many people who can say they have friendships that have spanned two decades. I have several! My 20-yr high school reunion was awesome evidence of that.

4.) Being a granny – I’ve gotten to spend quite a bit of time with my Jaydie Bug lately. She is a pure joy! I wish I could spend more time with my California grandbabies; Desmond Jr. (Scooter), Da’Liyah and De’Zha. Perhaps we’ll plan a trip.

5.) Music – Helping me feel my feels!

6.) Reading – Being unemployed brings lots of spare time for reading. I am thankful for my nook and my library card.

7.) Nature – God definitely puts on some amazing shows and I am thankful to get to experience them.

8.) Concerts – My honey took me to see Montgomery Gentry & John Michael Montgomery at the fair. AMAZING! She’s a country music fan now.

9.) Bundles of joy – possibly being the care provider for this little one.

10.) Life – Regardless of the ups and downs, I am thankful for every day.

10 Things I’m Loving Right Now

It’s the last day of the month. It has been a difficult 31 days but I am thankful to have made it through.

1.) Being unemployed – Was it planned? No. I just thank God that my spouse is able to support us. It has taken a bit of adjustment because I do like to shop but I am blessed. We are blessed.

2.) My Nook and my library card – I have been reading a lot more since I have not been working. I appreciate being able to check out books electronically as well as feeling the weight of a traditional book.

3.) Friends – New ones, those that have been staying in touch though we no longer work together, those that I’ve had for years and those that I consider family. I appreciate them all.

4.) Ideal Protein – Tomi and I are both doing well on the program. Dropping pounds like crazy!

5.) Wifi – It is so nice to have internet service at home. I really appreciate being able to stay in my underwear and search the interwebs if I choose instead of having to search it out in coffee shops and restaurants.

A Month Of Blessings – Day 30

This has been an amazing month in so many ways. It turns out that the last day of the month would prove to be the most eventful and hurtful and confusing day that I have had in quite some time.
I got up early in the morning and prepared for work, packed up my lunch and headed out the door for what was supposed to be my first day back after vacation. Well my boss, Sarah, met me at the door at 10 minutes till 7 a.m. and asked me to follow her to her office at which time I was informed that’s my employment was being discontinued and if I didn’t have any questions for her then I needed to go collect my things and leave.
I was angry, hurt and confused but I went and started collecting my pictures from my desk. I cried as I was doing so because the pictures brought back memories of friendships that had been forged and memories that we’ve created and I felt so sad.
I took a day to wallow but the whole point of this exercise was to be able to find the blessing. I am blessed to have a supportive and understanding wife who said not to worry about trying to find a job. I am blessed to live in a state that recognizes the marriage between my wife and I which allows me to be able to still have health insurance in spite of the fact that I am now unemployed. Thank you Jesus! I am blessed to have come out of this situation with people that I can truly call friends and who I know will remain in contact with me though we are no longer coworkers. More than anything, I am blessed to still be me.
