New Year, Same Me (Which Is Cool Because Most Days, I Think I’m Pretty Dope)…

Well, it only took me half of the month to catch up on life enough to complete my first blog post of the year. So much for starting the year with a consistent weekly post. Sheesh!! Anyway, let me get you all caught up on the life and times of me.

I brought in the new year with my honey and some friends and doing what I love to do…singing. We went originally to watch the show and Micah and Cat invited me up to join them on a couple of numbers. It was a blast!! Good company, good wine, good food and great memories.

In my zone

As of last Friday (my weigh-in day), I am down 70lbs since this whole weight loss thing started (down 4lbs for the week). Physically, I feel fantastic. I can move around without pain and without getting winded. I had been on muscle relaxers for chronic back pain for years and I haven’t taken them since surgery day. I can climb up and down the stairs in my house without having to climb on hands and knees like a toddler. My wife and I can go on walks with the dogs. We can go out dancing and instead of just part of a song, I dance through several songs and only have to sit down because a song comes on that I don’t like. I am enjoying the new found freedom that losing weight has afforded me.

I do have to say that extreme weight loss is a blessing and a curse. It has been a mental test getting use to my body as it changes. There are parts of me that hang that didn’t use to. My skin feels different to me, my clothes fit differently. My skin is changing, my hair is changing. It’s definitely interesting getting to know myself all over again. I don’t always like how I look with or without clothes. Some days are definitely better than others but I am learning and coping as I go.

I’m learning a few things…

Working out needs to be a priority. It helps you have more effective weight loss and helps you to gain muscle while you are losing weight. I’m getting more consistent with workouts but it is still my least favorite thing to do.

It is super important to take care of yourself mentally. Make time to pray, meditate, journal and pamper yourself. All the change is a lot mentally so you do not want to neglect your self-care; whatever that looks like for you.

Get use to never eating a hot meal again. That sounds weird but I honestly have not had a hot meal since I had surgery. The reality is that you just can’t eat it fast enough. The one thing this surgery forces you to do is slow down. You have to chew more because you don’t want to swallow big chunks (even of soft food). Believe it or not, you will get use to it.

Surround yourself with positive people who want to see you succeed. They don’t have to be on a weight loss journey (although you should have a few of those people in your life). Just make sure that they are not the people who are constantly offering you all the junk food and starchy goodness. Make sure they are people who are willing to listen to the occasional rant about ill-fitting clothing and a not-so-delicious new food. Most importanly, they need to be good cheerleaders who are willing to encrourage and slap that muffin out of your hand if need be. Someone willing to go on a walk with you and your dogs or offer alternatives for getting together other than eating and drinking (crafting dates, walking dates, mani/pedi dates).

Now, we are all caught up and ready to get back to our regularly scheduled program. I will be back on Friday with my weekly weigh-in

The 52 Lists Project: List 3

I am so behind on my blogging!! There’s been a lot going on with work because my work mate was out for almost two weeks which doubled my work load. So lately, after sitting in front of one for 12+hrs for work, when I get home the last thing I want to do is look at a computer screen. Anyway, she’s back so hopefully my days can get back to some sense of MY normal.

Okay…this week’s list.

LIST THE HAPPIEST MOMENTS OF YOUR LIFE SO FAR.

1.) The day I gave birth to my daughter. I was excited to get to spend her 25th birthday with her. I picked her up in the morning and we made a day of it. We had breakfast and then just spent the day hanging out and catching up.

10 Things 2015 Will Bring For Me: Faith Over Fear

I stopped making new year resolutions years ago. I didn’t really think about why until recently. I had given up hope, out of fear of trying and failing, that my life would ever be different. I would always be fat. I would never start my business. I would never write my book. I would never try. I always talked myself out of trying with thoughts like ‘You don’t have money for that’ or ‘You don’t have a degree’.
For a long time, I chalked it up to being lazy. Then, God started placing things in my path that helped me realize that my lack of action has been based on fear and self-doubt. Fear of flying. Fear of success. Fear of failure. Fear of being told “no”. Then God started placing things in my path that told me my faith needs to be bigger. I need to move in faith and what I need will come. Failure and hearing “no” means I’m trying; ACTION!
I have decided that this is the year that I get out of my own way.

This is going to be a year of action for me. A year that I will accomplish some goals; take action on the plans I’ve previously been too afraid to pursue.

1. I am going to complete my business plan, get my business license, create my business website and get started as an entrepreneur.
image

2. One of my strengths is as a caregiver. I enjoy doing for others. It makes me feel good. I will spend more time caring for myself.
image

3. I am going to take more time to nurture my friendships.
image

4. I am going to continue to show my body how much I love and treasure it by making healthy choices.
image

5. I will make sure that love is a verb in my marriage. My wife means the world to me and I plan to work hard to make sure she knows it.
image

6. I will take control of what we eat by cooking at home more and eating out less.
image

7. I will make time to write; journaling, poetry and most importantly, start my book.
image

8. I will spend more time on a microphone. I love to sing and I love to talk. I’ve always wanted to do session work in a studio and voiceover/ voice acting work but allowed my fear to hold me back. NO MORE!
image

9. I will cut the clutter; physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Clutter can block your clarity and block your blessings. I’ve been getting rid of clothes and shoes I haven’t/ can’t wear. I’ve been getting rid of old mail, photos and papers that hold no importance. I’ve been removing toxic people from my life. I’ve have been getting rid of thoughts and ideas that have held me bound.

10. I will live!

2015 is going to be a stellar year! I’ll keep you posted.

10 Things I Am Loving Right Now

It has been some time since I’ve written anything and I am in the kind of mood where I need to count some of my many blessings. It could be the weather or perhaps something else that has me in a state of melancholy lately. Anyway, here we go…

1.) God-I know that not everyone believes but I do and there are some days that I know I would not have made it through without prayer, faith and God.

2.) Social Media-I am so thankful to be able to keep up with my friends and family via Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc. Life happens and it is nice to be able to stay on top of things like birthdays, children, parties and all the other ins and outs of life. Especially since we live so far away from everyone.

3.) Tomi-There are some days when I am not sure that I would be able to maintain my sanity if I didn’t have her in my life. Plus, I think it is important to have someone in your life who makes you laugh to the point of urination.

4.) Singing-The ability to sing is what keeps me from catching a case some days. Singing is a great release for me and whether I am feeling great or down in the dumps, singing helps get me through.

5.) Zoloft (no filter) – I will just say that there are a lot of people who I have to deal with in my day-to-day that should be thankful that I am medicated.

6.) Employment-I know a lot of people who are out there right now looking for work and I am thankful that I have a job. There are days when my co-workers get on my nerves but I am thankful to have them.

7.) Moving-Although it was a LOT of work, we are moved into a bigger, better place and we are happy there.

8.) Pinterest- Anyone who has ever been on the website knows why I am thankful for Pinterest and anyone who has never been on it, don’t do it. You will be hooked.

9.) Comfort food (in moderation) – There is nothing better when the weather starts to turn cool. I have pulled out all kinds of recipes for hearty soups and stews and casseroles; all the stuff to make you feel warm deep down in your soul (They’ve got some great recipes on Pinterest).

10.) Being literate-I have read a lot of really great books lately and I am thankful for the ability to do that.
