Happy New Year!!

We made it to 2018!!

2017 was quite a year for my family and I; full of plenty of highs, lows and lots of in between.

We (Tomi & I) are -150 lighter between the 2 of us as we start this year.  We became homeowners this year. We have lost a few family members & friends (may they RIP) and gained a few new ones. We have both been working toward maintaining/ reestablishing familial relationships that have faltered along the way (such a long story-perhaps in a later post). The end of 2017 was particularly busy for us with traveling. We saw a lot of AMAZING concerts last year; the highlight of which was seeing Earth, Wind & Fire.

2018 won’t be quite as busy as last year for us when it comes to traveling but we have a few trips planned. Our oldest grandbaby (the only boy) graduates from high school this year. One of our daughters is getting married this year. Lord willing, we’ll celebrate another birthday and anniversary this year.

For me, 2018 will be a year of being intentional and consistent. I am really good and being consistently inconsistent. I’ve perfected over the last 20yrs or so. This year, I plan to step my game up and be more intentional about life as opposed to just letting life happen. I know that comes with being consistent. Some would say that it’s about time but I say that every day is a good day for a new beginning. Can I get an AMEN?!? I have been making lists, making plans and setting short/long-term goals. I’m trying to do an overhaul by making small changes (I don’t want to bite off more than I can chew) in several areas of my life where I want to be more consistent; working my business, blogging, skincare, continued weight loss, cleaning house, clearing debt.

This will be a year of fostering, maintaining or releasing relationships. I’m reaching out to those that have previously fallen by the wayside, I am putting in the work to maintain those and that are hanging out there by a thread and I am releasing, with love, those relationships that no longer serve me. I’ve learned that it’s OK to let go of those that don’t want to be a part of my life (and not take it personally) and also to allow myself to be let go of by others. I am going to be more intentional about fostering my relationship with God; spending time in fellowship with Him and in His word.

I’ve also been trying to adopt the action of doing little things with big love. Doing things for others and even for yourself does not always have to involve a grand gesture. Screenshot_20171211-202022.png

I’m stomping into 2018 with a new look, a new attitude and a new vision. I’m excited to see what this year brings.

10 Things I Am Loving Right Now

I have so much to be thankful for in my life. I realized, however, that I have not been taking the time to give thanks for my blessings. I suppose that if I thought about it, my list could go on forever but I am just gonna do a top 10.

1.) Waking up this morning and every morning for the last 36yrs – I thank God for waking me up each day, in my right mind and healthy; for the most part.

2.) My honey – Tomi is my best friend and always there for me. I appreciate that she can tell me the truth when I need to hear it without being hurtful. That’s important.

3.) My nook…and my library card – I love to read and I love the convenience of my eReader. At the same time, I really appreciate the smell and feel of a good, old library book.

4.) Social Media – While I have made it my business to spend less time being a social media whore, I appreciate my social media sites for keeping my connected to my friends and family who I am unable to be close to (physically).

5.) Employment – When I was fired from my previous job, I was angry and hurt. I took the time off to reflect on myself as well as my previous job situation and to pray. A job practically fell in my lap and I am loving every minute of it. There is nothing better than when you can do something you love in a fantastic environment.

6.) Being a mom! – All of our little ‘birdies’ have left the nest. While I worry about them non-stop and pray for them constantly, it makes me happy to see my little fish out there swimming in the big pond.

7.) My Grandmother – Geneva V. Coley (01/21/34 – 02/19/2005) My grandmother passed away several years ago but I appreciate that I was able to have her in my life. Tomi says there are times that I channel her from time to time. She was an amazing woman and I am so thankful for the love, lessons and prayers that I received from her. I miss her so much.

8.) A good mani/ pedi – I really love to pamper myself in this way. I put my headphones in and sit back and enjoy. However you choose to pamper yourself and unwind, do it!!

9.) A voice – I enjoy being able to express myself, relieve stress and share myself with others. I am thankful for the ability to write and to sing. It not only gives me a voice but provides a voice for others also.

10.) Peace and Piece of Mind – For the first time in a long time, I feel very peaceful in my life. Things are not perfect by a long shot but I think that I am just in a better mental space to roll with the punches.

Love From My Biggest Fan

As of January 27th, 2011, I am an Independent Beauty Consultant with Mary Kay. I had sold Tomi enough on the idea to give me the money for my starter kit but other than that, I thought she couldn’t be bothered.
Well, one night I go out to my car after work and I see an envelope on my dash. The first thing I did is back up from the car and survey the area all the while who had been in my truck. Once I was sure things were safe, I got in and opened the envelope. In it was a card telling me how fabulous I am (which I never get tired of hearing). There was a note written in it from Tomi telling me how proud she was of me for stepping out of my comfort zone and starting my Mary Kay business.
She has been a great sounding board, brainstorming partner, walking advertisement and a really good sport about letting me scrub and rub stuff on her face. I appreciate having her support as I work to build my business.

From Distressed To De-Stressed

Yesterday, work was ridiculous! I was running late, started off the day by myself and then over the course of the day I worked with 5 other people including my clinic manager and a manager of another clinic.
It was great to have some help but the day as a whole was extremely busy, chaotic and stressful. By the time things slowed down I was drained and just ready to go; my brain was FRIED!
We had stopped taking patients for the evening and there was finally time to start putting some of the madness in order. My co-worker pointed toward the door. I looked up abd there stood my honey! She said “Hey!” and handed me a goodie…a small M & M’s figurine filled with the delicious candies. Then, she turned and walked out the door.
During my break she had asked how my day was going. I told her how it had started off kind of crazy and then spiraled downward from there. I appreciate her thoughtfulness in stopping by to give me a little boost to get me through the rest of my shift with a smile on my face. She’s awesome that way.

10 Things I Am Loving Right Now

So, my intention this year was/ is to be more consistent with my lists. Every month on the last day of the month (or somewhere in that time) I plan to create a list. Just a reminder to myself and hopefully to others that there is always something to be thankful for. Here we go!

January’s List
1.) God
2.) Tomi~My partner, my lover and my very best friend. She is truly the mate to my soul.
3.) Shopping~Online, the mall, boutiques, catalogs…you name it, I’ll shop it.
4.) My Job~Thankful to have one…wait, I mean two. I recently became a Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant.
5.) My living space~working slowly but surely to make our house into a home.
6.) Memories~My Grandmother passed away 6 years ago this month. I miss her everyday and I am thankful to have good memories of her.
7.) My Blackberry!~While I don’t doubt the fact that the iPhone is amazing, my Blackberry is quite the technological wonder. LOL!
8.) Centric~Any channel where I can watch reruns of A-Team, In Living Color, The Cosby Show and Soul Train all in one day is alright with me.
9.) My newly adopted vegetarianism (not to be confused with vagitarianism which is something different altogether;o) Anyway, its only been 10 days but its been a fairly easy transition. I feel better.
10.) LIFE!~Thankful for everyday that God allows me to see. No matter what is going on, good or bad, I am thankful for the life I have been given.
Stay tuned for the next episode…
