10 Things I’m Loving Right Now

It’s the last day of the month. It has been a difficult 31 days but I am thankful to have made it through.

1.) Being unemployed – Was it planned? No. I just thank God that my spouse is able to support us. It has taken a bit of adjustment because I do like to shop but I am blessed. We are blessed.
2.) My Nook and my library card – I have been reading a lot more since I have not been working. I appreciate being able to check out books electronically as well as feeling the weight of a traditional book.

3.) Friends – New ones, those that have been staying in touch though we no longer work together, those that I’ve had for years and those that I consider family. I appreciate them all.

4.) Ideal Protein – Tomi and I are both doing well on the program. Dropping pounds like crazy!

5.) Wifi – It is so nice to have internet service at home. I really appreciate being able to stay in my underwear and search the interwebs if I choose instead of having to search it out in coffee shops and restaurants.

A Month Of Blessing Day – Day 11

Maya Angelou born Marguerite Annie Johnson; April 4, 1928 – May 28, 2014)
Black Dress
I have been trying to write this post since this treasure left us but I haven’t been able to. I decided that today is the day. I was not prepared for how affected I would be by her passing. I have been so emotional. She and her words shaped so much of my life; my self-esteem and just what it means to be a strong, black woman. The first piece I ever read by her was And Still I Rise; an amazing piece.
There are several quotes of hers that are a part of my every day life as I navigate through this thing called life.

“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.”

“You alone are enough. You have nothing to prove to anybody.”

“You may not control all the events that happened to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.”

“I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels. Life’s a bitch. You’ve got to go out and kick ass.”

Today, I am thankful for Maya Angelou and the wonderfully positive influence of she had on my life…and the world. She was a blessing.

10 Things I Am Loving Right Now

It has been some time since I’ve written anything and I am in the kind of mood where I need to count some of my many blessings. It could be the weather or perhaps something else that has me in a state of melancholy lately. Anyway, here we go…

1.) God-I know that not everyone believes but I do and there are some days that I know I would not have made it through without prayer, faith and God.

2.) Social Media-I am so thankful to be able to keep up with my friends and family via Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc. Life happens and it is nice to be able to stay on top of things like birthdays, children, parties and all the other ins and outs of life. Especially since we live so far away from everyone.

3.) Tomi-There are some days when I am not sure that I would be able to maintain my sanity if I didn’t have her in my life. Plus, I think it is important to have someone in your life who makes you laugh to the point of urination.

4.) Singing-The ability to sing is what keeps me from catching a case some days. Singing is a great release for me and whether I am feeling great or down in the dumps, singing helps get me through.

5.) Zoloft (no filter) – I will just say that there are a lot of people who I have to deal with in my day-to-day that should be thankful that I am medicated.

6.) Employment-I know a lot of people who are out there right now looking for work and I am thankful that I have a job. There are days when my co-workers get on my nerves but I am thankful to have them.

7.) Moving-Although it was a LOT of work, we are moved into a bigger, better place and we are happy there.

8.) Pinterest- Anyone who has ever been on the website knows why I am thankful for Pinterest and anyone who has never been on it, don’t do it. You will be hooked.

9.) Comfort food (in moderation) – There is nothing better when the weather starts to turn cool. I have pulled out all kinds of recipes for hearty soups and stews and casseroles; all the stuff to make you feel warm deep down in your soul (They’ve got some great recipes on Pinterest).

10.) Being literate-I have read a lot of really great books lately and I am thankful for the ability to do that.

10 Things I Am Loving Right Now

I have so much to be thankful for in my life. I realized, however, that I have not been taking the time to give thanks for my blessings. I suppose that if I thought about it, my list could go on forever but I am just gonna do a top 10.

1.) Waking up this morning and every morning for the last 36yrs – I thank God for waking me up each day, in my right mind and healthy; for the most part.

2.) My honey – Tomi is my best friend and always there for me. I appreciate that she can tell me the truth when I need to hear it without being hurtful. That’s important.

3.) My nook…and my library card – I love to read and I love the convenience of my eReader. At the same time, I really appreciate the smell and feel of a good, old library book.

4.) Social Media – While I have made it my business to spend less time being a social media whore, I appreciate my social media sites for keeping my connected to my friends and family who I am unable to be close to (physically).

5.) Employment – When I was fired from my previous job, I was angry and hurt. I took the time off to reflect on myself as well as my previous job situation and to pray. A job practically fell in my lap and I am loving every minute of it. There is nothing better than when you can do something you love in a fantastic environment.

6.) Being a mom! – All of our little ‘birdies’ have left the nest. While I worry about them non-stop and pray for them constantly, it makes me happy to see my little fish out there swimming in the big pond.

7.) My Grandmother – Geneva V. Coley (01/21/34 – 02/19/2005) My grandmother passed away several years ago but I appreciate that I was able to have her in my life. Tomi says there are times that I channel her from time to time. She was an amazing woman and I am so thankful for the love, lessons and prayers that I received from her. I miss her so much.

8.) A good mani/ pedi – I really love to pamper myself in this way. I put my headphones in and sit back and enjoy. However you choose to pamper yourself and unwind, do it!!

9.) A voice – I enjoy being able to express myself, relieve stress and share myself with others. I am thankful for the ability to write and to sing. It not only gives me a voice but provides a voice for others also.

10.) Peace and Piece of Mind – For the first time in a long time, I feel very peaceful in my life. Things are not perfect by a long shot but I think that I am just in a better mental space to roll with the punches.
