I am so behind on my blogging!! There’s been a lot going on with work because my work mate was out for almost two weeks which doubled my work load. So lately, after sitting in front of one for 12+hrs for work, when I get home the last thing I want to do is look at a computer screen. Anyway, she’s back so hopefully my days can get back to some sense of MY normal.
Okay…this week’s list.
LIST THE HAPPIEST MOMENTS OF YOUR LIFE SO FAR.
1.) The day I gave birth to my daughter. I was excited to get to spend her 25th birthday with her. I picked her up in the morning and we made a day of it. We had breakfast and then just spent the day hanging out and catching up.
2.) The day I met Tomi
3.) My wedding day!!!
4.) The day we found out my mom was in remission. Cancer sucks!!
5.) The first time that my dad let me sing the national anthem (The Star-Spangled Banner) at the Tacoma Golden Gloves. I have been doing it for about 15yrs now.
6.) At age 15, my daughter was in a horrible car accident. She was in a coma for two weeks. When she woke up, that was one of the happiest moments of my life.
7.) Tomi and and the kids taking me to Disneyland for Christmas (2007)
8.) Our honeymoon in to Hawaii
9.) The birthday trips we took to Vegas (2007) and New Orleans (2014).
10.) Seeing Lalah Hathaway, my absolute favorite singer, 2x in concert.
11.) The day JaLisa graduated from high school.
12.) The day of my 20yr high school reunion when I got to see so many of my good friends.

TAKE ACTION: Sometimes it’s easy to forget all the wonderful things that have happened in our lives. Come back to this list every day this week to remember you live a beautiful life.
Mother’s Day weekend was pretty amazing. One our granddaughters, Jayden, celebrated her golden birthday; She turned 8 on the 8th. We went to see her in a musical and then we all went out to dinner.
Then, there was our annual Mother’s Day brunch which also happened to fall on the 26th birthday of our 2nd youngest daughter, Keely. We ate, we laughed and enjoyed ourselves. It was a wonderful time as usual and I’m already looking forward to next year.
Here lately, it seems that I am always a day behind (at least). I blame the fact that I no longer have the structure of a job to keep me in check. There is nothing to keep me on schedule. I have been late mailing birthday cards and other sentiments and I pretty much have no social life anymore.
Anyway, I’m a day late but here is my list for February…
1.) Birthdays! My sister (Feb 21st) and my dad (Feb 27th) both celebrated birthdays. Also, our oldest daughter, Veronica and my oldest nephew. Plus countless other cousins and friends celebrated birthdays in February.
2.) This hottie! My wife is everything to me.
3.) No explanation needed…
4.) Discovering Global Couture because Lord knows I love me some cute accessories. I also love supporting a small, black-owned business.
5.) My hairdresser!
Mimi is the business and she always makes sure my hair is healthy and cute. I like to change it up!
6.) My daughter and my mommy! Because they live 4hrs away, I don’t get to see them as often as I would like so every opportunity is a blessing.
7.) My smile! There was definitely a few rough patches but I made it through and I’m still able to smile.
8.) Valentine’s Day! This was the first time in 11+ years that we actually went out for this particular day. We just don’t get into it. My wife planned the whole thing which is saying a lot because she is not really a romance kinda chick. She bought me fancy under things, took me to an amazing dinner and then we went dancing. I had a blast!
9.) New life! I got a new, baby cousin on the 22nd. Her name is Meleeha Janae and she is beautiful. Congrats to CJ & Jazmine, the new parents! Also, congrats to my cousin Steph (Jazz’s mom), the new grandma!
10.) Weight loss! I am -60lbs than I was at this time last year and that feels AMAZING!
I try to do these at the end of the month as a reminder to be thankful and take time to find the blessings in my day-to-day life. I was in the hospital so I’m a little bit late. Better late than never, right? January was a pretty good month and a great beginning to 2015.
1.) My baby girl turned 24 on Jan. 23rd.
2.) My wife…just because she’s awesome
3.) A good cup of coffee. I’ve found a new appreciation for my morning cup. My afternoon cup. And sometimes, my night time cup.
4.) My fur baby, Hayley. She keeps me company during the day.
5.) Dancing out the stress. There is nothing I enjoy more than cranking up some music and gettin’ down with my bad self. My go to jam…Electric Lady by Janelle Monaé
6.) Inspiration in book form. This book allows me to study my bible and get inspired using stories that ‘real’ women can relate to.
Twenty-four years ago on January 23, at 12:05am, a 14 year old girl gave birth to a little 8lb 9oz butterball of a baby girl with a head full of soft, curly hair.
I didn’t know then that my life was changed forever.
We grew up and learned to navigate life together.
Times weren’t always easy but I tried to make sure she always knew she was special and loved. I always wanted to make sure she laughed more than she cried and knew more joy than pain.
Through it all, we’ve survived and thrived.
We’ve laughed together, cried together, prayed together and fought together. Your smile has gotten me through a lot of hard days.
I’ve been blessed to see 38 years on this earth so far and the best part has been the 24 years I’ve had the privilege of being your mom.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY BABY GIRL!
I am thankful and blessed to have the some of the best friends on the face of the earth!
Tomi & I will be out of town on the actual day of our birthdays but our friends Aleena & MJ (Melissa Jayne) made sure there is cake. They just got married June 7th and should still be basking in the newlywed glow but they still took time to think of us. The best part is that it was delivered to me at work and its from my favorite bakery, Frost Me Sweet Bistro & Bakery in Richland, WA.
They made our wedding cake…the bottom tier was lemon drop and the top two caramel apple. Plus, there was gluten-free, vegan, double chocolate cupcakes.
This cake is red velvet; my absolute favorite. Aaaannnndddd, its 3 layers. I plan to dig into a big slice right after dinner.
My intention was to do my “10 Things” post for two months since I forgot April and May just ended. I have decided to do something different though.
I am thankful every day, all day for my life but for this month, my birthday month, I am going to post a picture each day of something I am thankful for and a blurb saying why. I have been having a hard time mentally and emotionally lately and as I near completion of another year of life, I feel like I need to remind myself how blessed I am.
Here we go…
I am so blessed to have this beautiful soul in my life. She is there to shore me up when I need a bit of help with bearing my life load. She makes me laugh, tells me I’m beautiful and she is my very best friend. She also has a June Birthday!
These two lovelies had birthdays! Our daughter Megan and granddaughter Jayden.
My BugABoo & I at her b-day shindig.
Happy Mother’s Day to this gorgeous woman. I am so grateful that God chose her as the vessel to bring me life. She is my best friend, a great hugger and…let’s just say I could go on forever about my Mommy.
Happy Mother’s Day to my wife and bestie. Parenting with you is AWESOME!
We had our annual Mother’s Day brunch at the La Quinta Inn & Suites in Tacoma. Its always a good time.
What a fantastic weekend! It was the weekend of the 66th Annual Golden Gloves in Tacoma. I sang the Canadian & U.S. National Anthem for both nights of the event.
I also got to see my sister, my niece & nephews and my cousin.
I also got to spend some time with my parents for their birthday weekend…Dad (Feb 27th) & Mom (Mar 2nd).
I had my first trip to IKEA. That was pure insanity! It was worse than Costco on a Saturday during Christmas. I loved the deals they had but online is the way to go with them.
We had a harrowing trip home through snow, ice and multi-vehicle accidents. It definitely got the heart racing.
Now, we are home on our bed and on our way to dream land.
I meant to post this yesterday; better than never.
Twenty-three years ago on this day (Jan. 23rd), I gave birth to my baby girl, JaLisa.
She was a funny and adventurous little girl who loved easy and was easy to love. She’s always been smart and wise beyond her years. For a lot of years, I was a single mom but she has always been well loved by a wealth of family and friends. I thank God for my ‘village’!
She has grown into a beautiful, young woman with a smile that lights up a room. She is very loving, generous and still very funny & adventurous. She is and has always been my reason to smile. She is a self-sufficient, successful young woman who is living life on her terms despite the trials that presented themselves along the way.
She is still my ‘little girl’ but in a bigger body. She still gets super excited when she sees me after we’ve been apart; just like when she was little. She doesn’t get embarrassed when I call her by embarrassing nicknames in front of her friends and smother her face with kisses. She still thinks her mom is pretty cool; “so dope” in her words. It still makes my heart dance to hear her laugh.
I thank God everyday for my baby.
Happy birthday my little beanie butt snookie face! I love you to pieces!
