Last weekend I was in Tacoma again. My little cousin and his wife are having their first baby and I went for the baby shower. She’s a radiant mother-to-be!
I decided to stay in town over night and invited my baby girl to spend the night with me. We did a bit of shopping and then stayed up late talking and eating junk food and of course, there was some silliness.
I became a mommy to another fur baby this past weekend.
I will give you a moment to take in all of this cuteness. It can be a lot all at once.
She’s a bit younger than we thought (6wks) and wakes up every couple hours like A baby which is a lot for us. She is a sweet and very spirited little thing.
My big girl, Hayley (6yr old Shih Tzu) is not a huge fan.
She doesn’t try to hurt her, she just avoids her like the plague. It probably doesn’t help that Rocki tried to nurse on Hayley her first night here. LOL!
She has figured out that the puppy can’t climb so she heads for higher ground whenever we put the puppy on the floor.
I’m sure it will get better once the puppy is older and annoying.
In the meantime, here is more cuteness.
She plays really hard for about 15 minutes and then knocks out for a couple of hours. Totally adorable!
Here lately, it seems that I am always a day behind (at least). I blame the fact that I no longer have the structure of a job to keep me in check. There is nothing to keep me on schedule. I have been late mailing birthday cards and other sentiments and I pretty much have no social life anymore.
Anyway, I’m a day late but here is my list for February…
1.) Birthdays! My sister (Feb 21st) and my dad (Feb 27th) both celebrated birthdays. Also, our oldest daughter, Veronica and my oldest nephew. Plus countless other cousins and friends celebrated birthdays in February.
2.) This hottie! My wife is everything to me.
3.) No explanation needed…
4.) Discovering Global Couture because Lord knows I love me some cute accessories. I also love supporting a small, black-owned business.
5.) My hairdresser!
Mimi is the business and she always makes sure my hair is healthy and cute. I like to change it up!
6.) My daughter and my mommy! Because they live 4hrs away, I don’t get to see them as often as I would like so every opportunity is a blessing.
7.) My smile! There was definitely a few rough patches but I made it through and I’m still able to smile.
8.) Valentine’s Day! This was the first time in 11+ years that we actually went out for this particular day. We just don’t get into it. My wife planned the whole thing which is saying a lot because she is not really a romance kinda chick. She bought me fancy under things, took me to an amazing dinner and then we went dancing. I had a blast!
9.) New life! I got a new, baby cousin on the 22nd. Her name is Meleeha Janae and she is beautiful. Congrats to CJ & Jazmine, the new parents! Also, congrats to my cousin Steph (Jazz’s mom), the new grandma!
10.) Weight loss! I am -60lbs than I was at this time last year and that feels AMAZING!
I meant to post this yesterday; better than never.
Twenty-three years ago on this day (Jan. 23rd), I gave birth to my baby girl, JaLisa.
She was a funny and adventurous little girl who loved easy and was easy to love. She’s always been smart and wise beyond her years. For a lot of years, I was a single mom but she has always been well loved by a wealth of family and friends. I thank God for my ‘village’!
She has grown into a beautiful, young woman with a smile that lights up a room. She is very loving, generous and still very funny & adventurous. She is and has always been my reason to smile. She is a self-sufficient, successful young woman who is living life on her terms despite the trials that presented themselves along the way.
She is still my ‘little girl’ but in a bigger body. She still gets super excited when she sees me after we’ve been apart; just like when she was little. She doesn’t get embarrassed when I call her by embarrassing nicknames in front of her friends and smother her face with kisses. She still thinks her mom is pretty cool; “so dope” in her words. It still makes my heart dance to hear her laugh.
I thank God everyday for my baby.
Happy birthday my little beanie butt snookie face! I love you to pieces!
This past weekend, I got to spend some much needed time with family. Since we live on the other side of the state, 4+ hours away, I don’t get to see my family nearly as often as I’d like. And when we do get to town, its hard to get around and see everyone in a weekend. It’s beautiful to see how we’ve grown over the years and how close we are; even though we don’t get to see one another as often as we’d like to. There are new babies, weddings being planned, kids starting school, new jobs, break-ups, make-ups new homes and so much more. It was great playing catch up with everyone.
I was most excited about getting to see my parents and my sister, niece and nephews. I just love them and miss them so much. I also got to meet my baby cousin, Layla Grace, for the very first time. I have seen pictures of her but being able to touch and hold her was fantastic! It was also my first time meeting my newest nephew in person; HE’S SO STINKING CUTE!
It is a sad but true reality that there are some members of my family that I don’t see for years at a time. Life goes on and thankfully, we have social media to be able to keep up with everyone’s comings & goings and such. As everyone gets older and our lives are changing, we are making the effort to find more opportunities to get together and make memories. Time flies!
